Active Older Adults

Older adult wellness programming is one of the fastest growing areas especially in aquatics, fitness, and strength training. These programs will help older adults maintain independent healthy lifestyles. Our AOA programs (age 50 & older) will help you not only physically, but emotionally and spiritually. Come visit us and join in the fun! Enjoy our delicious Potluck Luncheons.

Cardio-Core Blast

Join us for this 30-minute class that will focus lowimpact cardio moves to strengthen your heart and lungs, coupled with corestrengthening exercises on and off the mat. This class is geared toward older and beginning exercisers.

Functional Strength, Balance & Flexibility

Strength, balance and flexibility are essential in maintaining a comfortable, independent life. This class will provide you with the tools necessary to improve your daily life in these areas including coordination, posture and range of motion. Free for members!

Senior Circuits

Meet in the Fitness Center to get a full-body workout that incorporates a variety of cardio and resistance equipment. The instructor will provide general guidelines and form pointers as members enjoy the camaraderie of working as a group.

Senior Strength and Stretch Exercise Class

This exercise program is designed to help those who have joint and muscle problems achieve improved mobility, muscle strength and endurance in order to improve daily activities.


Adult Sports

Sports, fun and exploring new interests aren't just for the young. Along with improving health, whenever teamwork is involved, there's the added benefit of being connected to others. That's why you'll find a range of recreational activities at the Y. With something to offer everyone, there's no such thing as being too old to get in the game.

Men’s Basketball League

Men 18 years of age and older are welcome to join our Men’s Basketball League. The league includes an 8 week regular season followed by a single elimination tournament with full-court officiated games. Teams are required to have matching shirts with numbers.

  • Session I Registration: 1/29-3/4
  • Days/Season: Monday/Tuesday evenings, 3/12-5/15
  • Session II Registration: 4/23-5/27
  • Days/Season: Monday/Tuesday evenings, 6/4-8/14
  • Fee: $400/team

Co-Ed Indoor Volleyball League

Men and women age 16 and older are welcome to join the Indoor Co-Ed Volleyball League. This league includes a 10 week regular season followed by a 2 week post-season. Games are officiated, team roster max is 10 players, and games are played on Thursdays between 6-10pm. This league is open to non-members. Winter Session I:

Men's 7-on-7 Football League

Men 18 and older are welcome to join our new 7-on-7 Football League! This is a non-contact league where athleticism and strategy reign. There is a 15 player max per team, games are officiated, and teams must wear matching colored shirts with numbers (not provided). This league is open to both members and non-members of the YMCA. Team fee due in full by April 5.

  • Registration: February 26-April 5
  • Fee: $400 per team; Due April 5
  • League Meeting: Thursday, April 5 at 6:00pm Whiting YMCA
  • Season: April 12-May 31

Co-Ed Dodgeball

Men and Women 18 and older are welcome to join our new Co-Ed Adult Dodgeball League! 8 vs 8 format with a 12 player max per team. Games are officiated and teams must wear matching colored shirts (not provided). This league is open to both members and non-members of the YMCA. Team fee is due in full by March 29.

  • Registration: February 26-March 29
  • Fee: $250 per team; Due March 29
  • League Meeting: Thursday, March 29 at 6:00pm Whiting YMCA
  • Season: April 7-May 26

Our athletes will receive a brand new reversible jersey to use & keep for all their Y Sports...included with your program fees! Lose the jersey or want an extra? They will be available for purchase.

When kids play Y-Sports, they develop more than skills—they develop character. Instructors and coaches—often volunteers, including many parents—model fairness and hard work while emphasizing teamwork, cooperation, and developing good values in our non-competitive programs. Our volunteer coaches recognize achievements large and small and understand that winning is not just about the score. By playing sports, kids and their families feel a sense of belonging that comes from a community gathering together to cheer on their team. Everyone plays, everyone wins!
